Request Material

Place a Hold

Most items within our catalog can be reserved by placing a “hold” on it, regardless of the owning library. Holds can be placed by visiting our online catalog, by calling 419-289-8188, ext. 602, or by stopping by the Service Desk on the main floor of the library. Hold services are also available through the Bookmobile and Outreach Department. You will need your library card to place holds.

Once the item has arrived to fill the request, the member will be notified by phone, text, or email. Books, magazines, DVDs & audiobooks will be held for seven days from the notification date. If they are not picked up, the item will be re-shelved or put on hold for the next member on the hold list.

Interlibrary Loan

If you can’t find what you are looking for at the Ashland Public Library or within the SEO Consortium, we may still be able to borrow it from another library. These requests are able to be processed for a cost of $2.00 per item.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is the process that allows Ashland Public Library patrons to borrow materials from other libraries outside of the SEO Consortium. Requests are made at the Public Services Desk. Then, available items are sent by a cargo service to APL, where they are processed by Support Services staff and held for the requesting member. Members will be notified by phone, e-mail, text or mail (depending on patron preferences) when the item arrives. There is no charge for ILL requests; other fines and fees will be applied when appropriate.

A member may borrow the same title only once every three months.

Items are checked out on your library card immediately after we receive them. The lending period varies per item, due to each loaning library’s lending policies. If you would like to renew ILL materials, you must contact the Ashland Public Library at least seven (7) days prior to the item’s due date. Permission from the loaning library must be obtained for renewal, and is not guaranteed.

The member is responsible for picking up the requested item and returning it in good condition and in a timely manner. Failure to do so will result in fees charged to their account as outlined above. Members will be charged for lost or damaged items. Members who consistently abuse Interlibrary Loan borrowing privileges will have those privileges suspended. Privileges may be reinstated at the discretion of the Library Director.
