Library Cards

Application

To obtain a library card, you must complete an application and provide a picture ID and proof of your current address. The application, along with appropriate ID, must be submitted in person at the Service Desk or on the Bookmobile.

Any Ohio Resident is eligible for a library card. Children 0-17 years of age must have a parent or guardian present to sign the application and provide a picture ID and proof of current address.

All members must present their library card to check out items and receive any information about their account. The Library reserves the right not to issue a library card to anyone who cannot provide identification. The Library also reserves the right to restrict the borrowing privileges of any person who has overdue materials and/or accumulated fines or charges.

Members are responsible for all borrowed materials charged out on their accounts including fines and fees incurred for lost or damaged items, overdue fines, and late notices. Parents/Guardians are responsible for the accounts of minor cardholders whose applications they signed. Charges of $5.00 or more on accounts will suspend borrowing privileges. Materials will not be checked out on blocked cards. Replacement cards are available in the event of lost, stolen or damaged cards; member must present picture id to obtain replacement card.

eCards are available to Ohio residents upon calling the library at 419-289-8188.

Loan Periods

All library materials have a 14 day loan period, with the exceptions of Quick Picks.

Quick Picks have a 7 day loan period; they’re easily identified by the 7 day sticker on spine and front cover.

Because interlibrary loan items are loaned from libraries all over the country, loan periods vary per item, and often are renewable. Staff will review the loan periods and renewal information with you at time of checkout.

PIN

Each library member can create a specific password or “PIN” for their account. This allows members to use the self-checkout machine at the Circulation Desk, and to check library account information online.

To set up a PIN, please stop by the Service Desk or call 419-289-8188 ext. 601 with your library card number. After the initial setup, a PIN may be changed at any time when logged in to your online account or by talking with one of our librarians.

Educator Cards

Full time certified teachers, substitute teachers, preschool teachers, student teachers, home- school teachers and school librarians having a valid Ashland Public Library card are eligible for an Educator account. The benefit to this account is a slightly longer checkout time for materials to be used in a classroom setting.

Educator Loan Periods:

  • Books, magazines, audiobooks, CDs (limit of 7 CDs), and canvas teacher bags: 28 day loan
  • DVDs (2 item limit): 14 day loan
  • There are no renewals on materials checked out on Educator accounts. No circulation of recent fiction or non-fiction items on Educator Accounts will be permitted. (Effective 4/1/08)
  • Overdue fines will be assessed on your Educator Card at the rate of .05 cents per day/per item.
