Five Days in May 1940 | Chautauqua Event

July 16, 2021 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

During five days in late May 1940, England began a desperate evacuation of Allied troops from the beaches at Dunkirk. Two powerful members of Churchill’s five-man war cabinet were in favor of negotiating with Hitler to avoid the blood bath that they feared the British forces would experience if they continued to fight the Nazi forces. By the end of those five days, however, Churchill had convinced the war cabinet that England must continue to fight. This presentation will describe much of the drama that occurred during those five fateful days, when Churchill in particular displayed some of his greatest strengths as a war leader. This program will be a virtual online workshop.
